Matthew received his BSÌý(Hons.) in biology & environmental scienceÌýfrom Mount Allison University and his MSÌýin civil engineering from Queen's University. The throughline of his research interests isÌýmicroalgae, researching their contributions to marine biogeochemical cycles, the effects of their biogeography on shorebird andÌýsalmon migration, their applications in wastewater treatment, their role as bioindicators in riverine ecosystemsÌýand their potential as a sustainable source of calcium carbonate.

Before joining CU ÐßÐßÊÓƵ, Matthew spent two years as a scientist with the environmental NGO Ottawa Riverkeeper and worked as a technician for four other research groups. In his current role asÌýlab manager with the Living Materials Lab, Matthew oversees the day-to-day operation of the lab and contributesÌýto the lab'sÌýresearch output. In his spare time, Matthew is an avid birdwatcher, runner, cyclistÌýand gardener.Ìý
