Kortney Russell
Master's Student
Journalism

After working more than seven years as a police officer, Kortney is excited to embark on a new path in the field of journalism. Though she has held several other positions, including cross-country coach, bartender, and environmental health technician, writing has always been her constant. With a BA in Sociology and an MS in Criminology, Kortney aims to bridge the gap between academia and the general public, making complex research more accessible and engaging. CU ÐßÐßÊÓƵ's journalism program will develop these skills and allow her to explore her passion for marine and coral conservation through science writing.

Having spent most of her life in the Pacific Northwest, Kortney also enjoyed a few years in the tropical paradise of Hawaii and the rugged landscapes of Alaska, each place enriching her perspective and enhancing her storytelling abilities. When she is not working or studying, you might find her swimming, reading, rockhounding, or exploring new trails with her German Shepherd, Kozmo.
