Course Topics
The first of the five courses, held Wednesday, October 15, was "Designing Experiments: What's Important and When to Get Help." This mini-course is intended to provide an introduction to the major concepts and terminology of Experimental Design. The goal was to empower graduate students to analyze basic designs and to better utilize statistical consultation for more complex experiments. The discussion included Randomization, Replication, Blocking, Experimental vs. Observational Units, Confounding, Interpretation of Degrees of Freedom, and the Relationship between Sample Size and Power. Examples were illustrated using the software JMP.
