Alex's PhD work was related to thermal catalysis, specifically improving their performance using molecules know as phosphonic acids (PAs) to form self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). These SAMs are able to modify the the catalyst microenvironment to improve stability, selectivity and activity. Alex demonstrated these performance enhancements for a series of different catalysts and reactions, and used his resources in the Musgrave group to explore this concept using quantum simulations too. Alex is joining the Medlin group at CU as a postdoc to continue his PhD work. Congratulations Alex, and best of luck on your future endeavors.
