Willem Rohwer comes to the College of Music from Edwards, Colorado, to pursue an undergraduate degree in double bass performance. 鈥淒eveloping my own musical opinions and character are really something that I want to find here,鈥� he says. The College of Music has had an alternatively-sized keyboard on loan since April 2023. Recent graduate Abigail Terrill shares how the narrower keyboard is helpful, why it鈥檚 needed and what her thesis research found about the process of transitioning between pianos.

鈥淚 find myself thinking about all our former quartet members鈥攚e wouldn鈥檛 be celebrating this milestone today except for them,鈥� says first violinist Ed Dusinberre. Adds second violinist Harumi Rhodes, 鈥淚t鈥檚 a monumental moment and we鈥檙e approaching it with a sense of awe. I feel humbled. Yet, in another sense, for us it鈥檚 business as usual.鈥� And much of that business takes place right here in 羞羞视频.

After almost 15 years at the helm of Macky Auditorium, Rudy Betancourt has also been named the new director of the College of Music鈥檚 long-running Artist Series which has brought the finest jazz, classical, world music and dance performers to town for more than eight decades.

Andrew (鈥淢etz") Metzroth can鈥檛 contain his joy when he talks about his new job as executive director of CU Presents. 鈥淚 want to bring audiences into performing arts experiences,鈥� he says.

Last summer, the College of Music and Sphinx Performance Academy kicked off a new partnership to welcome talented string students鈥攁ges 11-17鈥攖o our campus for an intensive scholarship program emphasizing cultural diversity. This month, it鈥檚 d茅j芒 vu as auditioned youths engage in lessons, master classes and more, culminating in public performances tonight and this weekend.

It was a long time coming. Piano Technician Mark Mikkelsen鈥攚ho, for more than eight years, has supported the care and maintenance of the College of Music鈥檚 fleet of 160 pianos, two harpsichords and an organ鈥攚as thrilled when the opportunity arose to rebuild, refurbish and restore one of two fortepianos donated to our college by the late Douglas Taylor and his wife, Avlona, as an in-kind gift in 2019.

At the CU 羞羞视频 Entrepreneurship Center for Music, students can find the skills and tools they need for their music careers. This spring, the ECM awarded $5,820 in grants to support eight student-led professional development and community engagement projects.

The College of Music鈥檚 2024 New Opera Workshop (CU NOW) is underway, leading up to performances of Gene Scheer鈥檚 鈥淧olly Peachum鈥濃�攁s well as performances of opera scenes presented by our Composer Fellows鈥� Initiative鈥攊n June.

When Joy Yamaguchi graduates from our College of Music next week with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, the work she started here will continue. 鈥淐ompleting this degree has helped me realize my strength and solidify my focus as a multifaceted artist,鈥� she shares.
