Justyn Bunkley is an African American, first-generation PhD student. Justyn graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a BS in mechanical engineering and a minor in mathematics. While at UMBC, Justyn participated in various research projects, including space systems research at the University of Maryland, rocketry propulsion and design research at Morgan State University, and elephant-based bio-inspired design research at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Justyn’s research interest is in astrodynamics, with an interest in space debris removal and on-orbit servicing. His goal is to further the capabilities of space systems and vehicles designed for space exploration to further humanity’s knowledge of available space resources. Justyn plans to pursue a PhD in aerospace engineering sciences before continuing on with his career goal to research and develop technology that will venture to worlds outside our own while being a mentor and advocate for the next generation of aspiring aerospace engineers.
