Annie Booth gets Honorable Mention in 2011 ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards

Jazz Piano Bachelor of Music student Annie Booth received an Honorable Mention as part of the 2011 ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards. This program, established in 2002, was created to encourage gifted jazz composers from throughout the United States. The recipients, who receive cash awards, range in age from 9 to 29, and are selected through a juried national competition.

My name is Erin Paton and I am currently a freshman studying music education and jazz studies here at CU 羞羞视频. I play saxophone and love to compose 鈥 it鈥檚 how I 鈥渞oll,鈥 so to speak. Apart from that, I am also an entrepreneur. Over the past summer, while talking with my brother who is also in the music business, I thought of an idea that would send me off on an entrepreneurial adventure 鈥 the T奴turu Jazz Orchestra.

Danny Schade BM/2008/Percussion, BME/2008/Elementary General Private lesson teacher, Substitute teacher, Freelance drummer/composer. His first album was just released: 鈥淧redestination and Other Games of Chance鈥 the Soundtrack.鈥 Featuring music from his scoring of the podcast-audio-drama, Antithesis. Available at jdsawyer.net. Danny has also composed and self produced over 90 pieces of music in 2010.

Dr. Miroslava Mintcheva (DMA 2010, piano performance) is the recipient of the 2011 MTNA StAR Studio Teacher Fellowship Award. This prestigious award is given to an individual who exhibits exceptional teaching and performance skills and is deeply committed to the teaching profession. She is very proud to have been selected as the winner out of a large national pool of applicants. The award is in the amount of $3,000.

I first met Lisa Canning a little over a year ago at the first-ever conference on music entrepreneurship in higher ed, sponsored by the College Music Society. When, during our very first conversation, I learned that she had studied clarinet at Northwestern University 鈥 a leading conservatory preparing musicians for orchestral performing jobs 鈥 and that she had discovered there that playing in an orchestra was not her calling, I felt an immediate bond.
